November 2016 Prayers of the Month: Bless Us, O Lord
This month's prayers are taken from
These Thy Gifts
by Mark G. Boyer
In the spirit of the season, we offer three simple meal prayers for Thanksgiving and three for Advent from Mark Boyer’s collection. All are based on the Psalms and biblical canticles and are arranged according to the seasons of the liturgical year. One section contains meal prayers for special occasions.
O Lord, your goodness is abundant.
Your face shines upon us.
Make us grateful for all our blessings.
Bless this food and drink
and all who gather around this table,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
O God, you crown the year with your bounty;
your wagon tracks overflow with richness.
The pastures of the wilderness overflow;
the hills gird themselves with joy,
the meadows clothe themselves with flocks,
the valleys deck themselves with grain.
Make us thankful for all your gifts,
especially for this food that we are about to share.
All of us shout and sing your praises joyfully
We give you thanks, O Lord,
with our whole hearts.
We sing your praise before the whole world.
We thank you for your steadfast love and faithfulness.
Your right hand feeds us and sustains us.
We bow to your exalted name, O Lord,
for your word gives us life
and helps us to walk in your ways.
All glory be to you now and forever. Amen.
do not be far away from us.
When in need, come quickly to our aid.
Deliver us from all that hinders us
from welcoming the Savior with joy.
Bless this Advent food and drink
that helps us prepare for the birth of Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever. Amen.
We lift up our heads, O God.
We open up the doors of our hearts, O Lord.
We await the coming of the king of glory,
your son, Jesus Christ.
May this Advent meal serve
to prepare us for his arrival.
Hear us through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
we believe that we shall see your goodness
in the land of the living.
During this Advent season, we wait for you.
Through this food and drink,
make us strong and let our hearts take courage.
Help us to prepare to celebrate the birth of your son,
Jesus Christ, who is Lord forever and ever. Amen.
