Use these day-by-day booklets for Advent and Lent to help you focus on the theme of “calling.” We are all “sent forth” (that’s what the word Mass actually means) at the end of each liturgy, and we respond (enthusiastically, we hope) “Thanks be to God!” This booklet is designed to help us reflect on the Scripture passages for each day of Advent 2016 and Lent 2017 with a short excerpt from one of the daily Bible readings using The Message: Catholic/Ecumenical Edition.

We all have a vocation. Yes, we do. Jesus calls each one of us to drop what we are doing and become fishers of men and women. Most of us are not called to be missionaries (at least in the traditional way we think about it), but we are called to be Christ to those we encounter in our daily lives by how we “see and hear and act.” Are we ready?
Think of one thing you could do or say in your workplace or community or among your friends or family that could bring people real joy. Do it, but don’t brag about it. In fact, try to make it anonymous if you can. When someone asks who said or did it, shrug and say, “God is good.”
